Find coastal fall Chinook regulations

There are special temporary regulations for these fisheries. You can find them at the top of the NW and SW zones of the Recreation Report. Look for the "Regulation Updates" link in the dark blue bar, just below the map.‌

Recreating during drought

This is the time of year hunters, anglers and wildlife watchers start to see and feel the effects of wildfires and on-going drought. Here are some tips to help you enjoy the outdoors safely during dry, hot summer conditions.‌

Best bets for fishing

Summer fishing can be tough, but there are still plenty of opportunities to for fishing:‌

  • Cool ocean breezes, hard fighting fish. What's not to love about a charter trip for ocean salmon, halibut, tuna or bottomfish. The Marine Zone fishing report can help you decide.
  • Here are two ideas for some great trout fishing. 1) Sea-run cutthroat in the coastal river systems. Here are some tips for catching these feisty fighters. 2) Brook and rainbow trout in higher elevation and hike-in lakes.
  • The popular Buoy 10 fishery at the mouth of the Columbia River is open. And while it's still early for most fish, it's not too early to wet a line and get your sea legs back.
  • Finally, if it's just too hot for you (and the fish) to be outside fishing, spend some time in an air-conditioned place catching up with the Beaver State Podcast or exploring the MyODFW YouTube channel. Not sure where to start? Here are our top videos of 2022.
