Trask River Report

The Trask has the North Coast’s largest release of hatchery Spring Chinook (not counting the Columbia) and those fish should start returning this month and on through June. It can be tough fishing, but catching a chrome bright springer on a spring day is an experience worth the effort and nothing beats spring Chinook on the grill.
During the early season the majority of fish will be in the tidewater or in the lower River below the hatchery. Loren’s drift and the Hatchery Hole are popular bank access spots. There are no hatchery summer steelhead releases on the Trask, but we do see the occasional stray.
Trask River: Salmon/Steelhead Bobber Fishing Rule May 1 – July 31. From the Marker at Loren’s Drift (RM 9) up to Cedar Creek Boat Slide (RM 10.9) angling is restricted to fly fishing or bobber fishing. (See Salmon/Steelhead Bobber Fishing Rule on page 18 of the regulation book.)
North and South Forks of the Trask close to steelhead fishing on April 1 to protect spawning wild steelhead and out-migrating juveniles.
Cutthroat trout fishing in streams will reopen May 22, 2023.
Trask river levels and predictions are available here.
